Trained as a Neurosurgeon& Spine surgeon in CMC Vellore and McGill University Montreal, Dr. Jacob Eapen Mathew is a pioneer in propagating minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) in India. With over 22 years of experience in the field of Spine and Neurosurgery in the topic academic institutes & Hospitals in India and abroad, he is a leading expert in the management of all conditions affecting the Spine. During his tenure as Chief of Spine Services in Aster Medcity Kochi, he developed one of the best referral centers for MISS in Kerala where he pioneered MISS, awake spine surgery, complex spine deformity correction, craniovertebral junction realignment using state-of-the-art Navigation systems integrating intra-operative technologies like 2D imaging and 3D imaging.

Trained at some of the finest Universities and Hospitals in India, Canada, and Germany, Dr. Jacob Eapen Mathew is one of the very few neurosurgeons in the country with specialized orthopedic spine training for the correction of scoliosis and spinal deformities in adults as well as children. He was the first spine surgeon in south India to perform a novel Lumbar cortical screw fixation and percutaneous Ilio-lumbar screw fixation. Dr. Jacob Eapen has pioneered several unique and combination techniques to manage complex spinal conditions, including 3D printing-based treatment.

He believes in translating basic and clinical research into bedside clinical care in addition to mentoring trainees, residents & fellows in neurosurgery and orthopedics. He has written on spine health and preventive spine care for major newspapers and periodicals, appeared on multiple television channels to address spine-related patient concerns. He continues to engage with the community through social media to educate the public on preventive spine care.
